What to consider about the tent weight

The tent weight is only really important if the tent is to be used for backpacking or carried for long distances.

Modern manufacturing methods have given rise to light weight tents for use in more extreme environments. Whilst these tents are very suitable for their designed purpose they are more expensive due to the materials used.

Large framed tents using steel poles can be quite heavy but this is less important these days as most people arrive at the campsite by car, only needing to carry the tent for a limited distance (usually about 5 meters from the car to the pitching site).

Hint: cotton canvas tents once wet can be very heavy and take a long time to dry out so bear this in mind when purchasing your tent.
