Some camping stove tips

Here are some helpful camping stove tips for use with your camp stove. (If you have ever been hungry and faced with a stove that seems to get blown out every few minutes you'll appreciate the usefulness of these!)

1. Keep the stove in a sheltered spot and out of the wind. This will help prevent the flame being extinguished during the cooking process.

A camp kitchen can be as small or big as you like 2. Use a lid on the saucepan when boiling water to markedly reduce the time taken.

3. Don’t put hot saucepans onto the groundsheet as it will melt.

4. Make sure you have enough fuel before starting to cook as it can be very frustrating if the meal is only part cooked when the fuel runs out.

5. Make sure the stove is placed on level ground for the obvious safety reasons.

A washing up bowl can come in really handy 6. Wash your hands before cooking even though this may be less convenient than in the comfort of your own home.

7. Don’t cook the meal inside the tent as your tent may not be as flame retardant as you believe it to be.

8. Wash the pots and pans up immediately after the meal as it will be easier. Again, washing up will be less convenient than in the comfort of your own home so best to get it out of the way quickly.

The smell of good food is part of a camping trip

9. Purchase food that everybody likes as separate meals will be very time consuming.

10. Cook simple foods consisting of one main dish such as stews and pasta

11. Avoid meals which take a long time to cook or simmer as you may not have the patience to cook them correctly and the fuel cost will be high.

12. Plan your meals at home so you take the correct ingredients and so you don’t find yourself looking for a shop at short notice.
